Kentucky's Peanut Butter Bandit Is Smearing Homes and Fairgrounds

Just when you think you've seen everything, someone does something so off-the-wall that you realize there's still room to be surprised.

I was checking out Google News this morning when I came across a story from WKYT, the station's leading story of the day, no less, about a so-called Peanut Butter Bandit. Sounds like it came straight out of Gotham City, right? Nope. The prankster has reportedly been targeting homes in Somerset, Kentucky.

A Sticky Surprise at the Front Door

According to the report, the bandit smears peanut butter all over residential doorknobs. Imagine coming home after a long day at work, reaching for your front door, and ending up with a handful of sticky peanut butter. Gross.

The good news is, he doesn't try to hide it. If you have eyeballs and are paying attention at all, you'll see the peanut butter.

The prankster reportedly records his shenanigans and posts the videos to TikTok under the name "The Peanut Butter Smearer."

At first glance, some people might see it as a harmless prank. In fact, some of the folks who got "hit" were laughing about it in the comments. But there's a much more serious concern.

Many people live with severe peanut allergies, and for some, exposure can be life-threatening.

What might seem like a joke to one person could quickly become a medical emergency for someone else. That's why many residents and local officials are taking the incidents seriously.

The Pranks Are Escalating

According to fair officials, the Peanut Butter Bandit recently struck the Pulaski County Fair.

The fair's treasurer reportedly opened the office door Tuesday night and got a handful of peanut butter. A video allegedly shows the bandit smearing peanut butter around the fairgrounds as well.

Rebecca Cash, who is married to the Fair Board president and is also a teacher, expressed concern about the potential dangers.

"If you see something on a doorknob, a latch, a fence post, say something to somebody," she said. "You know, it may not bother you, you may not be allergic, but the three-year-old that's three people behind you could have a severe allergy."

Fair Continues Despite Concerns

Fair officials are still encouraging families to come out and enjoy the event. However, those with severe nut allergies should continue taking normal precautions and carry an EpiPen if prescribed by their doctor.
