A Family Tradition, One Salt and Pepper Shaker at a Time

Another little tidbit about me is that my Great Grandma — who we all called Granny Morgenthaler — loved collecting salt and pepper shakers. It was one of those small, simple things that became a big part of who she was.

How the Collection Became Ours

My mom has always been great at carrying family traditions forward, and over time she’s shared a lot of those traits with me. One of them just happens to be collecting salt and pepper shakers. What started as something Granny loved has slowly turned into something my mom and I now enjoy together.

A Special Delivery From Aunt Laura

When Granny Morgenthaler passed away, her entire salt and pepper shaker collection was sent to my Aunt Laura. And in true Aunt Laura fashion — kind, thoughtful, and generous — she decided to share it. She sent my mom and my other aunt a box of Granny’s salt and pepper shakers so they could each have a piece of the collection, splitting everything evenly between the three of them.

An Unboxing Full of Memories

Knowing that both of us collect, my mom sent me a video of her unboxing the shakers. Watching it was equal parts exciting and emotional. Each piece felt like a tiny time capsule, filled with memories, family stories, and a connection to someone who means so much to us.

A Small Collection With a Big Meaning

That’s why I wanted to share this story — and show off my small but growing salt and pepper shaker collection. It’s not just about the shakers themselves. It’s about family, shared traditions, and finding meaningful ways to keep the people we love close through the little things.
