Why Does the 2024-25 Evansville School Calendar Include an Extra Day Off for Students?
Here we are, just a few days into the second semester of this school year and we're already looking ahead to the next one. The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation school board recently approved the calendar for the 2024-25 school year, and the reaction is about what you would expect.

When I saw the calendar shared on the EVSC Facebook page, I went straight to the comment section, and I was not disappointed. As expected, there were several negative comments - a few of them regarding the start date for the school year (being too early), but most about the dates of Fall break.
Fall Break is the Same as This School Year
Some parents voiced their concern this year (2022-23) when they learned Fall break would be the entire week after the Fall Festival. Well, guess what friends, that is the plan for next school year, too. Fall break is scheduled for October 14-18. The Fall Festival will be October 7-12.
No School on Election Day
The most notable change/addition to the calendar is the announcement that schools will be closed on November 5, 2024 (election day). Officials say this is because many schools are used as polling locations.

The rest of the EVSC calendar looks pretty standard and includes the following noteworthy dates...
- School is back in session (with the staggered start): 8/5-8/9
- Thanksgiving break: 11/27-11/29
- Christmas break: 12/23-1/6
- Spring break: 3/24-3/28

We do gather feedback on it as well because of course we have to meet the required number of days in the state, but we also want to make sure that this school calendar meets the needs of our teachers in our classrooms, and is successful for students and families.
