Here’s When Bed Bugs Are The Most Active In Illinois
I you've ever had the unfortunate run-in with bed bugs, don't worry you're not alone. I've done a little bit of traveling this summer and my suitcase has probably picked up on a few unwanted guests here and there.
Bed bugs are active year-around, but there are certain times of the year that they're way more likely to spread and make your life miserable.

According to experts,
“In Illinois, bed bugs are most active and likely to spread during the summer months (June-August) due to increased travel and favorable hot, humid conditions, though they are active year-round. During the day, they typically hide, emerging at night to feed, especially in the early morning hours.” [crittersmite]

Basically, your summer vacation or even just more foot traffic in and out of your house during these last warm months could've brought bed bugs right into your space. They thrive on temperatures between 70 degrees and 80 degrees, which is super common in most places during summer time.
"The humidity of the summer months also makes it easier for bed bugs to survive and reproduce, making infestations more likely to occur in places such as apartments, hotels, and multi-family dwellings.” [crittermites]

That means Illinois is a hotspot for bed bugs between June and August. They actually die down during winter months, but they don't completely die off. SAD! They live rent-free in our houses basically. So, when it's freezing outside, they're getting warmth in our houses. When it's hot outside, they're really active.
If you've done any traveling over the last few months, or you plan on traveling soon, just take caution when bringing your suitcase back into your house. Spray it down, wash the inside contents right away, and don't put it on your bed! Once bed bugs move in, they're in!
