How to Retain Your Hail Damaged Vehicle in Daviess County
Like many of you, my family jumped from our beds last Saturday morning as golf ball sized hail fell from the sky at incredible speed. It was SO LOUD and scared us to death, but once my adrenaline slowed down, all I could think was "Oh nooo, we are gonna have mess on our hands."
The next day, we surveyed the damage and while the siding of our house and garage is definitely broken and cracked, our vehicles got the worst of it. Luckily, other than the cosmetic issues, they are just fine. If you are like us, and don't plan to replace your newly polka dotted car, here's what you should do:
RETAINING YOUR HAIL DAMAGED VEHICLE:
The Daviess County Clerk’s Office provided a list of steps for updating your vehicle's title to reflect recent hail damage.
1.) Fix any cracked glass
2.) You must have a letter from your insurance company stating the vehicle is totaled due to hail damage.
3.) The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office will inspect your vehicle - cost is $15
4.) Bring your title, letter from the insurance company, the inspection report, and your I.D. to the Auto Department.
5.) The Clerk’s Office will update your title to reflect HAIL DAMAGE. A deputy clerk will stamp your new registration, and the insurance company will use this document to pay you. The updated title fee is $11.
6.) Take your stamped hail title back to your insurance company who will then release the settlement payment.
