After a very eventful week of wind, lightning, thunder, and tornadoes, we have been preparing for the prediction of historic rainfall in our area.

Some towns in our surrounding area have already gotten eight inches of rain over the course of these weather events and are expecting eight more! Over the next couple of days, flash flooding is going to be a major concern.

Per Stacey May's Eyewitness News Weather Forecast, some areas that have never flooded before have the potential to do so. Areas that are prone to flooding could experience "catastrophic" conditions. Tonight, there is a strong chance for more storm conditions, and this situation is projected to peak on Saturday.

As you go about your normal routines, you'll probably notice issues that arise due to the weather. The City of Owensboro shared some possible non-emergency scenarios to look out for.

  • Blocked Inlets
  • Debris Blocking Streets
  • Manhole Cover
  • Street Flooding
If you see any of these things and there is no present emergency, you can report them to City Action. Monday through Friday during business hours (8:00 AM -5:00 PM), you can call 270-687-4444 to report the problem. Since the majority of this heavy rain will hit over the weekend, the best way to go will be to email cityaction@owensboro.org or report on their website.
In the text bar you'll type the word "storm" and then one of the issues listed above. Your report will go straight to the City Action street crews. For any emergencies, please call 911. You can also sign up for city text alerts to get information on street closures and city services that may change due to weather.
