Why I Love Summer Mornings

I love summer for so many reasons. Pool days, warm sunshine, fireworks lighting up the sky, and chasing lightning bugs are just a few of my favorites. But one of the best parts? How early the sun rises. It makes those 5 AM wake-ups a lot easier.

A Slow Change in Sunrise

This morning, I was up at 4:30 AM and noticed the sun didn't peek through as early as usual. It's been coming up around 5:15 lately, but today it arrived a little later. That’s when I realized we’re already past the halfway point of the year. June 20 marked the official midpoint, and now the days are slowly getting shorter.

The summer solstice is the first day of summer, according to astronomy. The word solstice comes from the Latin words “sun” and “stoppage.” It makes sense: The Sun stops moving North that day. The Sun’s most direct rays reach the maximum northernmost position. The Sun stands directly over the Tropic of Cancer, the most northerly Earthly place that ever sees an overhead Sun. - Old Farmer's Almanac

Saying Goodbye to Bright Mornings

I hate to see my bright and cheerful mornings fade into darker ones. If I had control over the weather, I’d keep winter limited to just the week of Christmas. The rest of the year would be filled with long, sunny days and warm temperatures. But unfortunately, it’s not up to me. Maybe it’s time to consider moving south.

The Old Farmer's Almanac Daylight Calculator

Curious about your zip code? Put it in the Old Farmer's Almanac calculator along with a date, and it will tell you the sunrise and sunset times. Around August 15th, we'll see the sun around 6 a.m. But, on December 31st, it will be 7 a.m. before it gets light out and will get dark around 4:40 p.m. I don't look forward to those days.

Appreciating Summer While It Lasts

It feels like it took forever to reach these perfect summer mornings, and now they’re slipping away too fast. I’ll be soaking up every bit of light while I still can.

Lately, I've been really annoyed by the constant use of the @everyone tag on Facebook. While I can’t quite pinpoint why it annoys me so much, I found out there’s a way to turn off those notifications if you know where to look!
