Harlem Globetrotter El Gato Melendez Answers Most Searched Questions About the Team [VIDEO]
The Harlem Globetrotters are bringing their wildly popular brand of basketball to the Ford Center on Thursday, January 12th, and one of the team's stars, "El Gato" Melendez stopped by the studio on Monday to answer some of Google's most frequently searched questions about the team.
Full disclosure, I stole this idea from a video Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence did recently for Wired Magazine's YouTube channel. The concept is simple; start typing a question about the subject (in this case The Harlem Globetrotters) and use the autofill suggestions Google pops up under the search bar.
There weren't a ton of usable questions for the Globetrotters, but enough to have some fun with El Gato.
I also spoke with El Gato (whose real name is Orlando Melendez, in case you're curious) about how he got the nickname, "El Gato" (Spanish for "The Cat"). As it turns out, it's a name he's had since his days playing on the public basketball courts in Puerto Rico where he was born and raised.
Check El Gato and the rest of the Globetrotters crew this Thursday night at the Ford Center. Tip off is set for 7:00 p.m. Central. Tickets are still available the Ford Center box office and online through Ticketmaster.
