The Red Cross of Southwestern Indiana is looking to get a jump on summertime blood donations with the "Life Saving Partners Blood Drive" on Monday, May 19th.

Blood donations during the summer months are generally down for the Red Cross compared to other times of the year as people generally spend the summer months at area baseball games, or out of town on vacation which can put local medical centers in a pinch when supplies start to run low.

According to a press release from the Red Cross, someone involved in a serious vehicle accident can require as much as 40 units of blood for their emergency care meaning the need for consistent donations is critical.

Monday's drive will run from 10am-4pm at the Southwestern Indiana Red Cross headquarters at the corner of the Lloyd and Stockwell on Evansville's east side. Everyone who makes a donation will receive a free Red Cross t-shirt and the chance to enjoy food from Buffalo Wild Wings and desserts from The Fresh Market.

To make an donation appointment call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org.
