Free and Cheap Things to do with Your Family this Fall in the Tri-State
Fall is showing up slowly in the Evansville area and reminding us about all the wonderful things we love about this time of the year: hoodies, football games, bundling in a blanket at marching band competitions, pumpkin EVERYTHING, jumping in piles of leaves…
The list goes on forever, it seems. Some of my best memories are from this time of the year, and this year I plan on making many more with my little ones.
Here are a few things that places in the area are offering to families this year:
YMCA

As always, the YMCA is offering many different programs for kids this Fall. Check out the clinics and the lessons that they are offering the little ones to our teens. If money is an issue, the YMCA will work with you. They are really wonderful about making sure that they can provide a safe place for everyone in the area to enjoy.
EVPL

The local public libraries have a lot of educational and craft activities for us to take our kids to this season. Most of them are during the day, but there are different events throughout the week that start at 4:00 in the afternoon like “Mad Science” and “Robotics Club”. If you can get your child there by 3:30 on Thursdays and you have a ukulele handy, your kids can learn how to play at the library!
HAYRIDES!

What is fall without a hayride?
October 11 from 2-8, Wesslemen Woods is hosting the Harvest Festival and Hayrides. “Experience the changing seasons at Wesselman Woods Nature Preserve while enjoying the thrills and traditions of autumn at this family oriented event. Horse-drawn hayrides will carry you through Wesselman Park while you learn about nature preparing for winter. Meanwhile several of the Preserve’s inhabitants–including our raptors and reptiles – are waiting to meet you at Odonata Pond in the Nature Preserve.”
Admission - $5 and kids 2 and under are free

Wesslemen Woods is also hosting events to get our little ones in touch with nature. 3-5 year olds are invited to learn about the world they live in through activities, games, art projects, and hands on activities.
Audubon Park
