If you're a pet owner proceed with caution in this summer heat.  There are several ways you can keep your pup safe and protect them from the heat.

PROTECTING YOUR PUPS

With temperatures in the excess of almost 100 degrees this week it is a reminder to keep your animals safe and protected from this heat.  They can't speak so we have to be mindful of taking extra care of them in the elements.

Our family owns two doodles, Layla and Lilly.  They don't do well in the heat.  In fact, they will go out potty and rush right back in, and head straight to the water bowl.

They just got their summer hair cuts because they are absolutely so hot they need to be shaved down each year.

FIVE WAYS TO PROTECT YOUR PUP

Actually, this one is a twofer.  It is easy to remember to check the heat but also remember the humidity.  Humidity can easily sneak up.  A dog pants to take moisture out of their lungs if it is too humid this doesn't work and they can overheat.  You can take a pups temp to make sure they aren't too hot.

According to the American Kennel Club;

When the thermometer registers 85 degrees and stays elevated throughout the day, taking your dog everywhere you go or even for a short outing can lead to a serious injury. Spending even a few minutes to meander through an outdoor event can prove hazardous.

When I was walking Layla the other day I was intentional about making her stay on a grass path and in the shade as much as possible.  You can also help your pup by putting a paw ointment on them to help nourish their paws.

NEVER leave your pup in a hot car.  Even with the windows down on a hot day a vehicle can heat up to temperatures no one can tolerate.  Leave them at home or make sure they have someone in the car with them and the air is on.

This one seems obvious but maybe even adding an extra bowl of water outside and even inside the house is a good idea.  Check the temperature of the water if it is sitting outside and keep it in the shade.

Dogs love treats too.  Just like kids, heck even adults we all love popsicles in the summer to cool us off.  This is the perfect way to cool a pup from the inside out.

These even you can enjoy with your fur baby.
