The Evil Dead Turns 40 This Year and Will Return to Theaters for One Night

The Evil Dead was released on October 15, 1981 and to celebrate 40 years the classic horror flick is set to return to theaters. Since it's release in 1981 The Evil Dead has turned into a hugely popular cult classic.  Just last fall some friends and I went to the drive-in to see a special The Evil Dead double feature where we watched The Evil Dead 1 & 2.   The movie has stayed tremendously popular in the horror genre over the years.

The Evil Dead ended up turning into an entire franchise after it's release, spawning sequels, a reboot, a TV series Ash Vs Evil Dead, video games, comic books and more.  So it's safe to say The Evil Dead is a cultural phenomenon that's rightfully earned it's place in cinemataic hisory.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the movie that started an entire franchise, The Evil Dead, Entertainment Weekly broke the exciting news that the film would be headed back to theaters in October for a special 40th anniversary celebration.  From the sounds of their announcement it sounds like it will be a one-night event happening on October 7th.  In the Entertainment Weekly article they also say we can expect an exclusive 40th anniversary intro from Bruce Campbell, you may know him as Ash Williams from The Evil Dead.

The theatrical event is being put on by FathomEvents, and tickets go on sale on August 13th.  I tried to see if I could find if any theaters in the Tri-State are planning on joining in on this special screening, but since tickets aren't on sale yet, the site won't let me search for participating theaters. I guess we'll have to wait until August 13th to find out who locally will be screening the special 40th anniversary of The Evil Dead.
