SO. Indiana City Ranks in Top 20 for Cost of Living Increase 2023

If your employer doesn't offer cost of living raises, you might consider a new career if you live in Southern Indiana.

Here's a fun game: Look back at your bills from last year. If they seem significantly higher this year, it's not your imagination, the cost of many essential services has increased in our area.

In a study from SmartAsset, the cities are ranked by the percentage change in costs between Q1 2022 and Q1 2023, relative to the United States average.

Prices in the Evansville, Indiana area rose 4.1% between early 2022 and early 2023. When you compare it with the national average, that makes Evansville the nineteenth-most out of the 237 areas that SmartAsst evaluated.

Another Indiana City Makes the List

Terre Haute residents are experiencing a pretty steep cost of living increase. But, according to the study, the national average affects the ranking.

Between the first quarters of 2022 and 2023, the cost of living in Terre Haute increased 6% relative to the national average. However, overall costs in Terre Haute are still 3.1% lower than they are nationally and less than 97 other areas.

UpgradedPoints.com released its findings on how much Americans spend annually on food delivery. Indiana is pretty average in delivery spending at $1,377.07. When you compare that to Iowa's over $3,000 average, we seem to be doing okay. But, this is one area that could save us a little bit each month.
