Drake Seems to Respond to Jay-Z’s Money Phone Line From ‘4:44’
Who knew putting a stack of dollar bills to your head would be such a dividing factor in the culture? It appears you can add Drake to the list of younger rappers who have directly or indirectly responded to JAY-Z's downing of the money phone.
Drizzy has been getting it in in Houston for his annual Houston Appreciation Weekend event. On Friday (July 21), he retired the jerseys of H-Town strippers Lira Galore, Miracle Watts and Maliah Michel. The same night he was spotted getting lit with a big stack of money in each hand. "What they say, don't put those to your ear?," he says to the camera as he raises the bricks of bills to his head. "I didn't hear that."
Jigga's line on "The Story of O.J." where he raps, "Y’all on the ’Gram holdin’ money to your ear/There’s a disconnect, we don’t call that money over here," is seemingly a small dig. But it has many MCs taking sides.
Hov's line also struck a chord with Boosie BadAzz who said he will continue raise racks to his ear. “In Louisiana, [JAY-Z’s] words don’t fly,” Boosie said in a YouTube video. “If you’re trying to get JAY-Z money, you shouldn’t put stacks to your ear. JAY-Z don’t tell me what to do. I don’t know about ya but he doesn’t tell me what to do.”
He continued, “I got love for JAY-Z, but y’all telling me I shouldn’t put stacks in my ear if JAY-Z says it? These Louisiana niggas don’t rock like that. If JAY-Z tell you jump off the Eiffel Tower, you going to jump? JAY-Z don’t run the South! I’m still holding money to my ear.”
