Daviess County Public Library Offering Free Chinese Calligraphy K

Are you the type of person that is always looking for something new to learn? How about Chinese Calligraphy? The Daviess County Public Library is offering classes and free supplies.

WHAT IS CHINESE CALLIGRAPHY?

The word "calligraphy" means beautiful writing. Angel here and I have always envied people who could take a pen and make magic. Writing their words in an artistic form makes you want to keep reading because the letters were so beautiful.

According to asiasociety.org;

In China, from a very early period, calligraphy was considered not just a form of decorative art; rather, it was viewed as the supreme visual art form, was more valued than painting and sculpture, and ranked alongside poetry as a means of self-expression and cultivation. How one wrote, in fact, was as important as what one wrote.

HOW TO SIGN UP FOR CLASSES AND WHAT TO EXPECT

The classes are actually not at the library. Anyone that wants to take the class will pick up their kits at the library and take them to learn from the comforts of their home.

Learn Chinese Calligraphy

August 17th @ 2:00 PM

This program will be streamed to Facebook Live.

Learn the art of Chinese Calligraphy in the comforts of your own home! Let JoJo, a California-based instructor, teach you all about this beautiful and ancient writing style. Attendees will learn a brief history of Chinese calligraphy and proper writing techniques. Attendees will also have the opportunity to apply their new skills and write a few phrases using Chinese calligraphy.

The supplies needed for this program include a Chinese calligraphy brush, calligraphy ink, and calligraphy paper. The library will provide 25 pre-made kits that include these supplies to be picked up on a first-come, first-serve basis.
