Cody Simpson gave his first interview about dating Miley Cyrus during the Tiffany & Co. Men's Launch event on Friday (October 11). Simpson confirmed that it was "safe to say" that he and Cyrus are going steady.

The Australian musician told reporters, including People, that he was happy. "We are very, very happy," he said. "She’s creative. She’s very passionate about what she does, and I’m very similar in that sense. That’s why we get along so well."

Simpson shared that dating the "Slide Away" singer is different for him since the pair were friends for a number of years before anything romantic happened. "The reason why it hasn’t been a really crazy sudden thing is just because we’ve been friends for so long," he explained.

"Any girlfriends I’ve had in the past has always been immediate romance and so it’s a different experience having been friends with somebody before and it developing naturally into something more," he concluded.

According to Simpson, the pair found each other at the perfect time. "[We] found each other again in a space where we’re both not partying, working real hard, and it just keeps things healthy and it’s good," he shared.

Next week, Simpson will be releasing a single he wrote about the 26-year-old while she was hospitalized with tonsilitis. "I wrote her a song this week that she’s pretty much forcing me to put out," he revealed. "She was like, 'If you don’t put this s--t out, I’m putting it out on your behalf for you. I’m getting your Spotify login and doing this s--t myself.'"

This past week, Cyrus shared Instagram videos of Simpson performing an unreleased song entitled "Golden Thing."
