The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis to Celebrate 100th Birthday with ‘Wheely’ Fun Attraction
Back when my daughter was little, we took a weekend trip to Indianapolis to see the Castle Knights play at Lucas Oil Stadium. We had heard a lot about the Children's Museum of Indianapolis, so I reached out and asked for media passes to write an article. Most of the time, touristy destinations seem like they are going to be awesome, but then they turn out to be a huge letdown.
Is the Children's Museum of Indianapolis Worth Visiting?
I can tell you, without any hesitation, that the Children's Museum of Indianapolis was the exact opposite of a letdown. It blew all my expectations out of the water. From the moment you pull up to the building until you exit, you are immersed in the coolest exhibits imaginable. I have to confess - I liked it better than Disney World.
It's hard to miss the dinosaurs smashing through the building. And of course, the museum dresses up these dinosaurs for special occasions. They were recently spotted TSwift friendship bracelets. When we were there, they had their Halloween costumes on. Where does the museum even get costumes that fit DINOSAURS?

What's the Children's Museum of Indianapolis Like?
When we went in, we were greeted by the transformer, Bumblebee. We visited exhibits on space, food and cooking, geology, music, animals, history, dinosaurs, and much much more. Since we visited back six years ago, the museum has grown substantially.
Here was our virtual tour. At 72K views, I'd say their three media passes paid off! If I redid this, I'd change the music for sure!
How Big is the Children's Museum of Indianapolis?
Having the largest children's museum in the world in your backyard makes visiting quite convenient. Boasting 7.5 acres of both indoor and outdoor exhibits, the museum takes multiple days to fully enjoy. And both kids and adults definitely won't get bored.

Celebrating the Children's Museum of Indianapolis's 100th Birthday
New in 2025, the CMoI has revealed that they are building a Ferris Wheel to celebrate the museum's 100th birthday. Founded in 1925 by Mary Stewart Carey, civic leaders, and local organizations, it is the fourth-oldest such institution in the world.
As part of our 100th birthday celebration, we’re thrilled to offer the Centennial Ferris Wheel outside in the Riley Children’s Health Sports Legends Experience®. This is an Indianapolis exclusive you’ll only find at The Children’s Museum! Hop aboard this family-friendly ride for incredible views of the museum campus, the downtown skyline, and surrounding areas. -childrensmuseum.org
The museum has reported that the Ferris Wheel will open on March 15th and will run until November 2nd. It will require an additional ticket but they promise it's a 'wheely' good time!

How Much are Tickets?
Tickets run from about $30-$35 for adults and $20-25 for children but there is a $3 discount for Indiana residents. It's highly encouraged to purchase tickets ahead of your visit on their website. They also offer discount days each month. Check their calendar for details.
Since my daughter is a teen, she's past the sweet innocent age that is awe-struck with wonder at all the museum has to offer. I need to borrow a kid so that I have a valid reason to go back because it's worth the trip.
