This year marks the 100th Anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment which granted voting rights to women. And in honor of this historic milestone, Elaine Weiss, author of "The Women's Hour: The Great Fight to Win the Vote" will be speaking at the Votes for Women: 1920-2020 event at Victory Theatre, this Sunday, Feb. 9th at 2p.

In an interview with the Courier and Press, Weiss said she was "shocked at how organized and vehement some women were in opposing the women's suffrage movement" ... and how "...a lot of the women who were opposing suffrage and the 19th Amendment [...] felt that suffrage was the opening act in a very dangerous new frontier for women".

To hear more about the challenges women faced, especially from other women, on voting rights, join us in celebrating 100 Years of women's suffrage at the Victory Theatre, this Sunday, Feb 9th.

The event is free of charge is open to anyone who wishes to attend thanks to the Evansville Public Library.
