See the Eerily Captivating Photos of an Abandoned Indiana Animal Hospital
Why do so many of us find abandoned buildings so fascinating? Of course, there is the supernatural element - whether a building is haunted or not, but that's not what attracts me. I love really old buildings and seeing how they have aged, and seeing how construction has changed over the years. Another aspect that intrigues me is when things are left behind in an abandoned building. The pictures below are a perfect example.
These pictures (courtesy of Alan J. Centeno) were taken inside a former animal hospital in Lake County, Indiana. From what I've read, the facility opened back in 1938 and was shut down in 2004.
Places go out of business all of the time, for a variety of reasons - there's nothing overly interesting about that. What I find very interesting, though, is the amount of stuff left behind.
It appears as though there was no effort to clean out the building - equipment, supplies, and files, among other things, were simply left right where they were the day before.
Clearly, people have been in and out of that building over the years. The pictures show that things have been picked through and ransacked - but the fact that so many things were left to pick through still has me scratching my head.
Is anyone else wondering why there is a model of a human ear in this office?
The ceiling fan in this picture looks like it could be straight out of a painting by Salvador Dali.
While doing just a little bit of digging, trying to learn more about the animal hospital, I found this video from 2021, showing you even more of the abandoned building. Notice the shot of a bottle of euthanasia medication left behind - that's kinda creepy.
