As a graduate of Mater Dei High School, I understand that having a dress code isn't the most appealing thing in the world. From what I understand, it's become even stricter since I graduated back in 199...well, that's not important.

Even though I wasn't a huge fan of the dress code, I would have never thought to stage a protest like this.

Up until two years ago, the boys at the Impington Village College in England were allowed to wear shorts during the warmer months, while the girls were allowed to wear skirts.

That all changed when a new school policy banned the wearing of shorts at school - a surprising decision, considering that the girls' dress code remained the same.

This irked 12-year-old Chris Whitehead, who still wanted to keep his legs air conditioned in the summer, and believes that being overheated will make it more difficult for boys to learn. So, in a sign of protest, he skirted the rule change by wearing a skirt to school. (Click here to see a photo of Whitehead wearing the skirt.)

Headteacher Robert Campbell admitted there was nothing he could do about Whitehead's protest, explaining, "Ultimately, the boys can wear a skirt to school because it doesn't say they can't in the uniform policy, and we would be discriminating against them if we did not allow it."

I think it takes some serious cajones on the part of the kid to pull off a stunt like this, but I give him credit for trying. I also give credit to the school for understanding that there was nothing they could do about it because he wasn't violating any rule.

What do you think?
