An Indianapolis Coffee House Offers Spooky Vibes Year-Round
If you love horror movies and coffee, this café in Indy is an absolute must-see!
Black House Café
During a recent trip to Indy, my friends and I visited the Black House Café, a horror-themed coffee house located in Fountain Square. When walking up to the entrance, visitors are treated to a small cemetery display and are greeted by a life-size Michael Myers figure.
On the side of the building is a large Nightmare on Elm Street mural where Freddy enjoys a nice cup of joe while hanging out at the fountain amid scurrying teens. The mural covers the entire side of the brick building and is impressive in its own right.
Enter If You Dare
I will be the first to admit that even though I enjoy scary movies, I am a scaredy cat to my core. With no idea of what to expect, I had those jittery nerves of someone preparing to enter a haunted house. When we walked in, we were immediately greeted by friendly staff. Every inch of the inside was decked out in horror movie props. There was so much to look at while waiting for our orders.
The front counter was decked out in famous horror movie characters.
At the front entrance, there are so many different movie props to check out, we almost forgot to even look at the menu. The decor didn't stop there with framed memorabilia covering the black-painted walls and Halloween masks sitting up top on the windowsills. Some of the posters are even autographed. There was so much to explore that we barely sat down to enjoy our drinks.
A Spooktacular Menu
Of course, I can't leave out the coffee.
Every drink on the menu, given creative horror-themed names, sounded so delicious that the three of us had a hard time deciding what we wanted.
As an avid coffee drinker, I opted for my regular Americano order, which had an amazing bold taste. My friend's husband ordered the "No Please Don't Kill Me Mr. Ghost Face," a white mocha with whipped cream and a raspberry drizzle.
If coffee isn't your thing, the menu offers a variety of smoothies and teas. My friend ordered the "No, You Hang Up," a sweet strawberry-banana smoothie made with oat milk.
Next time I visit, I already know I'm trying "The Dreamer!"
This little coffee house is packed with a horrifying personality and is more than worth the stop during an outing to Fountain Square.
