Aid The Homeless Textathon: Spotlight on St. Benedict’s (VIDEO)
On Friday, October 23rd, WBKR is teaming up with the Greater Owensboro Realtor Association and Kentucky Legend for the very first-ever Aid the Homeless Textathon in Owensboro. The event will run from 6am to 6pm CST and will raise money for Aid the Homeless, which benefits six area homeless shelters/services here in Owensboro.
St. Benedict's Homeless Shelter is an emergency homeless shelter in Owensboro. They strive to provide a safe place for men to eat, sleep, shower, and take care of their laundry. St. Benedict's provides services for many here in our community and surrounding communities in the tri-state. They serve over 500 men on a yearly basis and in the past year added a women's day shelter where they serve 40 plus women for a variety of needs throughout the week.
According to their website;
St. Benedict’s addresses barriers many face becoming self-sufficient by providing life skills classes, case management, targeted case management, ministering, transitional housing, maternal housing, day shelter, emergency shelter, and advocating services and resources.
The funds from the Textathon unlike grants can be used for whatever the shelter may need.
This morning Angel had an opportunity to interview Executive Director, Harry Pedigo;
Donating during our Aid the Homeless Textathon is incredibly easy. All you have to do is text the word GIVE to 833-814-7739. Stay tuned to WBKR, Friday, October 23rd from 6am to 6pm for hourly updates and the grand tote board total!
