Because of a $5 Walmart Find, I’m Finally Sticking to My New Year’s Resolution

For the last five years, I've had the same New Year's resolution - drink more water. Well, that's easy... right? NO. WRONG.

NEW YEAR'S 2024: DRINK MORE WATER

I'm just not a thirsty gal. In fact, I barely drink anything - even when I'm eating because I just don't get thirsty. I don't drink soda or fruit juice but do have a bit of a coffee addiction in the morning. When I started counting up how much liquid I was getting in a day, it was dismal - pretty much coffee in the morning and a half can of La Croix at night. Yikes. How have I not shriveled up and dehydrated away?

WHAT I WANTED IN A WATER BOTTLE

I'm also one of those weird sensory people which is a nice way of saying that I'm picky. I don't like the taste of stainless steel bottles. I don't like the mouthfeel of some water bottle mouthpieces, and I need to be able to carry it since I'm perpetually in a state of "my arms are completely full."

I DIDN'T FIND HER - SHE FOUND ME

On January 2nd, I was perusing the aisles at my local Walmart and a water bottle on an endcap caught my eye. She was next to the lunch boxes. I suppose Walmart knew what they were doing. They didn't put exercise equipment and water bottles out around the holidays!

With my resolution on my mind, I thought, this could help. It was a big 64 oz water bottle (no refilling), had a heavy-duty straw, and handle, and had lines that indicated where you were supposed to be through the day. I don't often give into impulse buys and thought, well, maybe next time. Then I saw the price and immediately threw it in my cart.

IS SHE FANCY? NO

Now, is it customizable and fancy like those Stanley cups? Nope! Does it keep my water cold? Nope! Does it fit in my cup holder in my car? Nope! Do I really care about any of those things? Nope! Maybe I'm not so picky after all...

Well, what does she do? She does help to keep me motivated to drink water. And I use my Zero Water Filter every morning to fill it up. I call her Samantha Jones because I feel like she's really kicking me in the butt to be the best version of myself.
