Call me old fashioned, but I always thought that you generally waited until someone was near death or had been "in the business" for somewhere in the neighborhood of 30-plus years before you gave them a tribute at a major awards show. Turns out, like so many other times, I was wrong.
Our sister-site PopCrush.com reports that this year's MTV Video Music Awards will feature a tribute to the "Femme Fatale" herself, Ms. Britney Spears. Don't get me wrong, Britney has been an iconic figure in the world of pop music since blowing up the scene with the release of her 1999 debut album ...Baby One More Time assisted big time by the jailbait worthy video for the album's title track. I'm not saying she hasn't had an impact on the music world; artists like Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, and even Lady Gaga were all inspired by Britney. I'm just saying that at the age of 29, it seems a bit early for highly publicized tribute. I suppose in this age of instant gratification, thanks to the internet and smartphone technology, you have to do the tributes earlier. The next teen sensation may only be a YouTube click away.
Anyway, enough old man ranting, the point here is that Britney will get her tribute at the VMA's scheduled for Aug. 28th. In typical fashion, MTV is keeping details what and who will be involved in the tribute close to the vest. Speculation is that Lady Gaga could be involved in some way or another while one site, hollywoodlife.com, reports that a Britney fan site, BreathHeavy.com has seen an internal memo from someone in the Spears' camp that says Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus, and Demi Lovato are set to put on a performance as part of the tribute that will "have people talking the next day".
We'll have to wait until Aug. 28th to see it for ourselves. Until then, MTV has provided this one minute promo to make sure that once Aug. 28th gets here, we'll be dying to see what's going to happen.
