You don't have to travel far from home to experience the amazing wonders of nature. Kentucky and Indiana are home to some of the most beautiful forests and National Parks. Several family-friendly trails are even right here in Owensboro. Pack your water bottle, put on your comfy shoes, apply that sunscreen, and hit the trails!

Walk or ride this combination of looped trails on the west side of Daviess County

Hemlock Cliffs

Once home to Native Americans, these rock formations with waterfalls and lush greenery are an excellent way to explore nature. Just be sure to respect the ancient heritage and leave it as you found it.

Mammoth Cave National Park

Right here in Kentucky is the world's largest cave system! An incredible look into this world of unique plant and animal life, this National Park has multiple trails and activities like kayaking, horseback riding, fishing, and you cannot miss the cave tour. Learn all about the history of humans in the cave. Miners, settlers, slaves, and Native Americans all walked these caverns.

Yellow Creek Park

Located in East Daviess County, the trail is perfect for folks of all ages. Baseball fields, basketball and pickleball courts, a nationally recognized frisbee golf course, and a fully stocked fishing lake is great for anyone who loves being active in nature. This beloved park comes alive every June as the home of the ROMP Bluegrass Festival. There are also picnic shelters to host parties and cookouts.

Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest

About 30 minutes outside of Louisville, KY live the Forest Giants! A beautiful sprawling system of trails, this forest is also home to a research center.  The paths are fairly level and easy, but a word of advice, wear a hat and lots of sunscreen.  Follow the yellow footprints to find the giants "hidden" along the way. There are also fun places for kiddos to play, guided tours, and night programs to explore under the stars!

If you are looking for some fun ways to enjoy Mother Nature this Summer, look no further! Any of these amazing spots in Kentucky and Indiana would be a great day trip.
