12,000 Pounds of Frozen Turkey Products Recalled Due to Misbranding – Is Your Freezer Safe?

The USDA has announced a recall of nearly 12,000 pounds of frozen turkey products due to both an undeclared allergen and a package misbranding.

Abbyland Foods, located in Abbotsford, Wisconsin is recalling approximately 11,800 pounds of frozen turkey meatballs after the product was mislabeled as turkey sausage patties. The United States Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service also says an undeclared allergen is also contributing to the recall.

An Undeclared Allergen

In addition to the mispackaging, the product reportedly also contains soy, although it is not disclosed on the label. Soy is a known allergen, according to the USDA.

Are They in Your Freezer?

If you are ready to look through your refrigerator or freezer, you're unlikely to find any. The frozen, fully-cooked turkey meatballs, labeled as turkey sausage patties were shipped to commercial kitchens across the country and were produced on March 2, 2023.

5-lb. unlabeled bags in 10-pound labeled boxes of "Jennie-O FULLY COOKED TURKEY SAUSAGE PATTIES" with lot code 06223. The products subject to recall bear establishment number "P-17764" inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to hotels, restaurants, and institutions nationwide

No Confirmed Reports of Adverse Reactions

At this time there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consuming these products. However, the Food Safety and Inspection Service worries that some of these products may still be in institutional freezers. They say these products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase, and institutions should avoid serving these products.
