Where is Illinois on the List of Worst States for Health Care?

Having great health care available to you is one of the most important things about where you choose to live, a recent ranking was released putting the states in order from Best to Worst states for Health Care, so where does the Land of Lincoln fall on the list?

According to a recent ranking from the website Wallethub.com, Illinois is perfectly average when it comes to health care compared to every other state, the site ranked Illinois 25th out of the 50 states (plus Washington D.C.). The site ranked the state based on three main categories, cost, access, and outcomes, Illinois ranked 25th for cost, 18th for access, and 27th for outcomes (outcomes according to the site are things like mortality rates, life expectancy, and at-risk patients). On the site they say...

"Americans need affordable, quality health care more than ever as we continue to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. State healthcare systems need to administer vaccines and care for those who contract the virus, including new variants, while making sure not to neglect the regular health care needs of their residents."

So which state takes the top spot? That belongs to Rhode Island, followed by Massachusetts, Hawaii, Minnesota, and Maryland to round out the top 5. The worst state on the list is Mississippi followed by Alabama, and Louisianna to round out the bottom three. For our readers on the Missouri side of the river, Missouri finishes 36th on this list, really ranking poorly in the outcomes category, being ranked 42nd. It does concern me to see that I live in a state that is ranked average as far as health care goes, but luckily I know there are some really terrific hospitals in the state of Illinois that I can get to if I need to seek experts or the best of the best care.
