On Saturday afternoon, I did a live broadcast from the sponsor of our upcoming St. Jude Radiothon, Kenny Kent Chevrolet on the Division Street Auto Plaza. This wasn't your run-of-the-mill live broadcast (or "remote" as we call them in the biz). No, part of the fun included me getting the chance to stand inside their cash machine and grab as much money as possible in 30 seconds as a donation to St. Jude.

Just like our Radiothon next Thursday and Friday, this was my second time inside the cash machine. Last year I grabbed the most money among our sister stations so not only was I looking to get a good chunk of money for the hospital, but I had a title to defend as well.

Into the booth I went with goggles on (to avoid a paper cut on my eyes I assume). The machine kicked on with the push of a button, blowing air up through the floor and circulating 1, 5, 10, & 20 dollar bills around my body. My strategy was to try and block the money with my right arm against my body, hopefully catching a few bills along the way, while snatching as much as I could with my left hand.

When all was said and done, I was able to grab $139 which Kenny Kent graciously doubled for a $238 total donation to St. Jude, that's the good part. The bad part is that I must relinquish my cash grab title to my buddy Eric Cornish from our sister-station, 99.5 WKDQ, who managed to grabbed $150 that Kenny Kent doubled to make $300. It's a small price to pay, but one I'm more than willing to fork over for the greater good.

Between Eric and I along with friends and co-workers, Sandman from 103GBF and Annie Jenkins from 105.3 WJLT, we were able to pool together just over a $1,000 to St. Jude.

Be sure to tune in this Thursday and Friday from 6am-7pm for our second annual St. Jude Radiothon to find out how you can become a Partner in Hope with St. Jude and help them continue their fight against childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
