It's gotten a little chilly in the Tri-state over the past couple of days and I finally had to break down and turn on the HEAT! Over the Summer we got a new NEST Wi-Fi Thermostat installed as part of the Vectren Energy Assessment Program, but this is the first time I got a chance to test the HEAT settings!

I was hesitant at first to crank up the heat. I wanted to give myself at least ONE month of lowered utility bills since the summer decided to stick around til OCTOBER. The good thing I like about this thermostat is that I don't have to get out from under the covers to turn on the heat. I can open the Nest app on my phone to adjust the settings, and stay as snug as a bug in a rug!

I can also turn it off from outside the house anywhere I have an internet connection on my phone just in case my family FORGETS to turn off the heat when no one is home! One tip I'd like to suggest is changing your air filter at least once every 3 months, some suggest every month but I cant afford that. Also, if you have a gas furnace, don't forget to check your pilot light, even in the summer time, to make sure its on and there isn't a gas leak.

If you haven't had an energy assessment from vectren, I suggest you sign up for one before the winter REALLY hit. They are FREE and it can SAVE you money on your heating and cooling bills.
