First off, yes, I totally watched The Powerpuff Girls when I was growing up.  It was/is a classic Cartoon Network show that many people my age loved to watch.  So, imagine my excitement and slight skepticism when I saw that there was going to be a reboot.  Not just any reboot either.  A live-action and, for lack of a better word, darker version will hit our screens soon.

This new take on the classic cartoon will focus on the Powerpuff Girls as adults.  More specifically in their mid-twenties.  Just like the group of people who grew up watching the original cartoon series.  Unfortunately, this time around the Powerpuff Girls aren’t too keen on fighting bad guys and saving the city of Townsville.  They will actually resent that part of their lives according to Variety.  So, don’t expect the same cutesy show that you knew and loved.

Producers of the new Powerpuff Girls said that you should expect “less Cartoon Network and more Riverdale”.  Which is very fitting since the reboot is set to air on the CW.  If you are worried that you won’t see the same crime-fighting action from Bubbles, Blossom, and Buttercup because they have “moved on” I wouldn’t worry.  There is supposedly a new threat that will force the trio to embrace the past and take up kicking some serious butt again.

It will be very interesting to see how far from the source material this show will go.  From what I gather so far, the only similarities will be the name of the show and the main characters.  I do wish that there were more details to share but I guess we will have to be patient.  I’m just excited to see what happens with the show and how fans react to seeing a different side to these iconic characters.
