Ugh, That's really all I can say about the death of a real-life superhero, Jason David Frank. He was the OG Green Ranger, and then the White Ranger in the '90s series Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. I had the opportunity to meet JDF twice at Secret Headquarters. To say that I was giddy was an understatement. Jason David Frank traveled to hundreds of locally-owned comic shops and signed merch for the shops to sell. He met every fan possible at every stop. He did this on his own, without any contract or paycheck.
According to TMZ, who confirmed his death, it “was the result of suicide.”
Jeffrey Osborne owns Secret Headquarters in Evansville, and he shared his experience meeting JDF, and then how it was to host him twice in the past two years.
JASON DAVID FRANK
It’s a terrible, sad day here at the store.
My first convention I went to…there were two Long lines to meet “celebrities”. Stan Lee and JDF.
At the time, I had no idea who Jason David Frank was. All I knew is that there was about a two to four-hour wait and he drew a massive crowd to his area.
It sounded like a rave going on and the people seemed as if JDF was a combination of The Rock, KISS, the Beatles and other superstars who were jam-packed in his area.
To say he was a selfless, people person is an understatement. When he met each person he gave them ALL one-on-one interaction.
I personally watched him change people's lives right in front of me.
While other celebs talk about giving…JDF did!
If some fans had no money he didn’t care. He still gave them more than what they wanted.
For small businesses….he signed EVERY Power Rangers item in the store for free. He signed so much that I felt bad and he said “that’s what I’m here for.”
He took PPP from COVID and went around the nation to save small comic shops suffering during the pandemic.
The suicide of his daughter greatly affected him. Trauma to anyone is crippling and can alter your life on all levels. This and recent happenings in his life really brought him down.
There’s a lot of speculation right now that we won’t get into.
Please know this….if you are down if you are feeling defeated or like no one cares…THEY DO! WE DO!
Anyone reading this can come in the store anytime to just talk or say hi. We’ve been compared to Cheers.
We will always talk, joke, say stupid things and play weird music. And there’s usually someone here who loves the same things you do.
You don’t even have to tell us you’re struggling or hurting. We’re here for you!
Everyone who was fortunate enough to meet here at our store and spend a quality moment with him please post a memory or photo.
REMEMBER…you are never alone and we are here.
RIP Jason David Frank
We had the opportunity to chat with JDF in 2021 ahead of his appearance at Secret Headquarters.
