I am so happy and excited to share photos from the 2022 Pride Parade and Festival hosted by River City Pride. It was a beautiful day both in weather and in spirit and you can see it all in brilliant photos captured during the day's events.

A Little Local History

River City Pride was formed in 2018 and brought Evansville's first-ever Pride parade and festival to the city in 2019. As a mom and ally to members of the LGBTQIA+ community, I knew the importance of that inaugural event, and I made sure I was there sporting my "Free Mom Hugs" shirt and my big, bold rainbow sign declaring myself "Ally AF." Let me tell you, I gave out a whole lot of hugs that day!

2020

Unfortunately, the pandemic prevented River City Pride from hosting a Pride event in 2020. It was during the planning phases of the 2021 event that I reached out to River City Pride about getting involved. As someone who has family, friends, and coworkers in the LGBTQIA+ community it was important to be a part of this event, not only for our stations but personally as well.

2021

Despite the organization's best efforts, 2021 didn't work out quite as expected either. However, organizers were able to still host a Pride event, albeit virtual, that they moved to October to coincide with National Coming Out Day. I was honored to be the Host with the Most (I was dressed as Beetlejuice!) for their Spooky-themed virtual Pride livestream event.

2022 Marks the Return of Pride in Evansville

Fast forward to 2022 and all systems were a go to celebrate Pride once again in Evansville in the traditional month of June! I'm grateful that our stations were able to show up and be allies and I was deeply honored to have been named one of the Grand Marshals for the Pride parade. Once the parade was through, I had the opportunity to give out a whole heap of mom hugs and I even emceed the final drag show of the night!
