Sam Smith Is Taking a Break From Music, Hates Singing ‘Spectre’ Theme
Sam Smith's first act as an avowed gay role model? Taking a break.
The 23-year-old singer, who released his debut album, In The Lonely Hour, last year, is ready to stop and smell the roses after promotion surrounding Spectre theme "Writing's On The Wall" dies down. He told Entertainment Tonight he needs a moment to decompress if he's to dream up a suitable concept for a follow-up LP.
"I am sad, but also it feels right," he said. "I've been going now for three years nonstop and it feels right for me to just go home and just live my life and be a 23-year-old. My love life, the downs and ups, it never stops, so I'm always inspired by stuff like that, but it'd be good to spend some time dating."
And it sounds like one source of Smith's lethargy could, in fact, be the Bond theme song, which he told comedian Graham Norton takes some reaaaal preparation to execute.
"I’ve only actually sung the song once, really," he said on The Graham Norton Show last week. "Because I did the demo in the studio, and they used that. It is horrible to sing. Horrible...It’s just so high. I have to grab my balls; it’s awful."
