POLL: Did Liberty Nail her ‘Punky Brewster’ Look, or Not so Much?
I cannot event explain to you how excited I was to find out that Punky Brewster was getting a reboot starring the O.G. Punky herself, Soleil Moon Frye. If I didn't already have the NBC Peacock App, so I can watch The King of Queens, I would get it just to watch Punky.
I was inspired to embrace the 'Punky' style, and since Doug needed jeans, we did a little shopping. Now, left unattended, I end up with silly things like overalls, which you'll see in the video. I had researched the shoes, so I knew exactly where to get those, and quite genius to find non-matching - matching shoes. I thought there would be no doubt who I was getting my style from. Turns out, it could be a number of characters...
My son thought I was dressed like Super Mario.
Bobby was thinking like maybe Pippi Longstocking or Chucky. Yes, Chucky from the scary movie that I haven't even seen!
I haven't made it through the first season yet (10 episodes) but it is watchable for adults of a certain age, that grew up in the 80s. Punky's best friend, Cherie, still played by Cherie Johnson is even in the reboot.
If you'd like to pull the curtain back, and see the darker side of Soleil Moon Frye, you should watch the new documentary on Hulu that gives us an intimate look at some of those 80's and 90's teen stars, thanks to hundreds of hours of home video footage captured by Soleil Moon Frye.
