Luke Perry’s Bittersweet Final ‘Riverdale’ Scene Revealed: Here’s What Happens
Luke Perry’s final appearance on Riverdale has been revealed.
The beloved actor, who died after suffering a massive stroke in March, appeared in his last scene on Wednesday (April 24) night's episode—and just like showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa promised, his final moments with TV son KJ Apa were "beautiful" and so deeply bittersweet.
In the episode titled “Chapter 54: Fear the Reaper,” Perry's character Fred Andrews can be seen giving his son some much-needed fatherly guidance after Archie blames himself for the death of his boxing opponent Randy even though he technically died from a drug overdose.
"Son, from everything you've said, it's clear Randy died from those drugs. The autopsy will support that. You're innocent," Fred tells his son in their kitchen.
“But I’m not, Dad,” Archie snaps back. “I knew. I knew Randy was juicing. I could’ve stopped the fight, but I didn’t want to forfeit. If I had… I’m never stepping into that ring ever again. I can’t.”
The camera then lingers on Perry for a few heartbreaking more seconds until his screen time on Riverdale comes to an end. Fred's final words to his son perfectly summed up his character, as well as the role he played in real life—a "father figure and mentor to the show’s young cast” who “infused the set with love and kindness.”
Following the scene, heartbroken fans posted their reactions to the episode on Twitter.
It's still unclear how Perry is going to be written off the show, but Aguirre-Sacasa confirmed Riverdale will be addressing his death. "We know that we have to address it in some way, but we’re giving ourselves a little bit of time and space before we figure out the best way to honor him," he told Entertainment Tonight last month.
