New Indiana Small Business Specializes in ‘Nerd Related Items’
A new small business has opened its doors in Southern Indiana and it caters to "nerds."
What Exactly Is a Nerd, Anyway?
If you've ever wondered what constitutes being labeled as a nerd, Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines the term as:
a person devoted to intellectual, academic, or technical pursuits or interests
and:
a person preoccupied with or devoted to a particular activity or field of interest
They also offer this alternative definition:
an unstylish or socially awkward person
But Is It Subjective?
Really, I believe the term to be subjective. I mean, what one person might be considered nerdy, another person might consider cool. For example, I am really into classic cars and I can rattle off all kinds of useless, random information to anyone willing to listen. To someone with a shared interest, they might find my random car talk cool. Someone who barely knows how to put gas in their own car probably doesn't care about the subtle nuance between a 1971 and 1972 Chevelle and might find my knowledge on the subject to be nerdy.
Nerds Unite
I think at the end of the day, we all are a little nerdy. I mean who doesn't have some kind of hobby or special interest that they are super into? Maybe for you, it's role-play games or 3D printing. Maybe you love Pokemon and have an epic card collection. Personally, I wear the term nerd as a badge of honor - I always have. So where can you go for all of your nerd needs?
