The COVID-19 pandemic continues to take its toll on events around the country, in Kentucky, and locally.

It's been recommended that the KMEA (Kentucky Music Educators Association) Marching Band Championship be cancelled for 2020.

The KMEA is comprised of more than 2,000 music educators from kindergarten through university level.

Hancock County was last year's champ.

I spoke with Owensboro High School Band Director Abe Barr who said, "With all of the uncertainties right now, it's going to be hard to field a marching band at most schools. Canceling the competition was the right move. Band programs will have to be creative in how they use their time, energy, and resources to keep their students enthusiastic about music."

This is a good example:

The KMEA Marching Band Championship for 2020 was scheduled for October 31st.
