I. Love. Sushi. While there are several really great places to have sushi in Evansville, I do have a favorite restaurant to dig in my chopsticks.

Until about five years ago, I had never eaten sushi. I'll be honest, I was scared to try it. After all, I don't like fish. My first experience with sushi wasn't spectacular. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. I wasn't left with the desire to have it again. Fast forward a few years, and I tried it again. This time I really liked it - a lot!

I have discovered that all sushi rolls are not created equal and similar rolls at different restaurants aren't so similar at all. Now, my favorite is hands down from Jaya's Authentic Foods on 4th Street in downtown Evansville. I order the Godzilla roll, which I am told is their most popular, and then my favorite, the Caterpillar roll - it has crab and eel. The rolls are delicious and expertly made. The wasabi is always hot - some places I've been it's just not hot, and I have to use a lot of it to achieve the "burn" that I  like. Another great part of Jaya's is the orange cake for dessert. I wish I could describe this cake to you, but there are just no words. You will have to try it for yourself. Another great thing about Jaya's is that there are plenty of non-sushi dishes on the menu if your dinner companion either doesn't like sushi or just isn't in the mood. Hands down, Jaya's is my favorite!
