Justin Bieber's popularity has yet to wane, solidifying his status as one of pop's premier figures. And while the perks -- adoring fans, world travel, astronomical wealth -- are, undoubtedly, enviable, the pitfalls of fame -- lack of privacy, isolation, endless and unprompted screams from fans -- are not.

But there are ways to ensure the good outweighs the bad, or -- at the very least -- that celebrities like Bieber remain as physically safe as possible while navigating their unbelieable version of the world. A new documentary, called Bodyguards: Secret Lives from the Watchtower aims to highlight those hired to protect some of the biggest names in entertainment -- including Bieber.

“I'd say the hardest part is just space, and so having security creates space for me, it creates boundaries, it creates a safe place for me,” Bieber says of fan encounters, in a clip from the documentary. “As the fans get older and just, knowing themselves more, they start understanding how to act and they actually want to act a little bit more sane so that maybe they get my attention because at this point they’re screaming and super overwhelming, it’s hard for me to connect with you.”

The "Sorry" singer's bodyguard, Mikey Arana, also gives his perspective on protecting Bieber, noting the sheer strength of his fans shouldn't be underestimated.

“I remember when I first started with him – it may sound crazy, but three, four little girls, emotional – they have so much strength that they would literally rip his shirt, take off his hoodie,” Arana said. “And if it’s a big crowd, you could lose him in the crowd...But as the fans have grown with him, so has their approach to be able to just come up to him and be like, ‘Hey Justin, how are you?’ and engage in conversation.”
