If salsa, guacamole or anything with a little jalapeño kick is sitting in your refrigerator right now, you may want to take a closer look at the label before you dig in.
Taylor Fresh Foods has issued a voluntary recall of multiple prepared foods containing jalapeño peppers because of possible Salmonella contamination.
And this isn't a recall happening somewhere far away. The affected products were distributed to retail distribution centers in Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois, along with several other states.

What Foods Are Being Recalled?
The recall includes more than just containers of jalapeños.
Several ready-to-eat foods are affected, including salsa, guacamole, dips, chopped jalapeños, a burrito, a sandwich and other prepared foods.
According to the FDA, recalled Taylor Fresh Foods products were sent to retail distribution centers in 26 states. The recall list includes products associated with retailers including Kroger, Target, Walmart, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Hannaford and Stop & Shop. For Tri-State shoppers specifically, recalled Kroger dips were distributed in Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois, while some recalled Walmart and Whole Foods products were distributed in Illinois.

The recalled products have "Best If Used By" dates that vary by item, with dates extending through August 16, 2026.
Why Are the Products Being Recalled?
Taylor Fresh Foods announced the recall after Coast Citrus Distributors voluntarily recalled fresh jalapeños over concerns of possible Salmonella contamination. Taylor Fresh Foods says it recalled finished products containing jalapeños affected by that recall.

The FDA and CDC are investigating a multistate outbreak of Salmonella infections linked to fresh jalapeños supplied by Coast Citrus Distributors. According to the FDA, traceback efforts identified a grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, as the potential source of the outbreak.

Salmonella Outbreak Has Sickened Hundreds
The FDA and CDC are investigating a multistate Salmonella outbreak connected to jalapeño peppers.
As of the latest investigation update, hundreds of illnesses have been reported across multiple states as investigators continue looking into the outbreak.
It's important to note that the larger outbreak involves the recalled jalapeños. Taylor Fresh Foods says that, as of its August 9 recall announcement, it was not aware of any reported illnesses specifically linked to its recalled products containing jalapeños.

What Should You Do?
This is definitely one of those times when it's worth taking an extra minute to check what's hiding in the refrigerator.
Taylor Fresh Foods says consumers who have one of its recalled products should throw it away immediately and not eat it. Refunds are available at the location where the product was purchased.
The FDA is also advising consumers not to eat, sell or serve recalled jalapeños or products containing the recalled peppers.

So before you grab the chips and salsa or add a little guacamole to dinner, check the package, product name and date. With recalled products distributed in Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois, this is one recall Tri-State families will want to know about.
