The state of Indiana can often be found near the bottom of the national rankings for a bunch of different reports – that’s why it gives me so much pleasure to write this article. It’s not only great news for the Hoosier state, but for my hometown of Evansville.

Signature School Shines in National Rankings

For the second year in a row, Signature School, located in the heart of downtown Evansville, has been ranked the #2 best high school in America by U.S. News & World Report. That’s out of nearly 25,000 schools across all 50 states. Pretty incredible, right?

What Makes Sig School Stand Out?

According to the report, this charter school goes above and beyond when it comes to preparing students for the future. Students have access to Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses, and they consistently score higher than state and national averages on college entrance exams. But it’s not all about test scores - Signature School also offers unique electives like piano lab, requires community service hours (hello, future leaders!), and thrives on parent involvement through its Parents, Teachers, and Students Association.

Double Honors for Sig School

And the accolades don’t stop there. Not only is Sig School the #2 ranked high school in America, it’s also the #2 ranked charter school in the country! Considering these national rankings, it should go without saying – but I’m gonna say it anyway – that Signature is the #1 ranked high school in Indiana and Evansville. Duh!

See How Downtown Evansville Has Changed Over the Years

I find looking back on the way things used to be fascinating. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I'm living through the current time period. The conveniences of answering any question we have in seconds, or ordering practically anything we want or need and having it delivered to our doorstep is pretty sweet. But, there is something fun about seeing how things around us have evolved. As an Evansville native, and spending quite a bit of my time in downtown Evansville (that's where the station is located), I've always appreciated the older architecture of the buildings around the area. So, I dug into the Willard Library Archives to see how a few of those areas look now compared to then. Some have changed a little, others quite a bit, and a few don't even exist any more. Take a look.
