The Cartoons That Defined Our Saturday Mornings

I don’t care how old I get. I could be 47 years old and still sit down on a Saturday morning to watch cartoons. There’s just something about them that instantly brings you back to being a kid again. It’s comforting. It’s nostalgic. It feels like home.

Now, being 25, some people probably assume my favorite cartoons were things like SpongeBob SquarePants or Little Einstein's. Nope. If you haven’t figured it out yet, I’m a total old soul.

Give me the classics all day long. Looney Tunes, the ORIGINAL Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, and even some 90s favorites like Dexter's Laboratory. Those are the shows that take me right back.

So for Throwback Thursday, we asked you a simple question on Facebook:

Picture this. It’s Saturday morning. You’re the first one awake in the house. It’s still dark outside. You grab a giant bowl of cereal, turn on the TV, and settle in for cartoons. What are you watching?

And WOW did you all deliver.

The Clear Winner? Looney Tunes

If there was one cartoon that absolutely dominated the comments, it was Looney Tunes.

I don’t think anyone was surprised. I mean Looney Tunes has been around for A WHILE plus it's just iconic, every character is well thought of and the show is just superior.

People mentioned Bugs Bunny over and over again along with classics like Yosemite Sam, Foghorn Leghorn, and Pepé Le Pew.

One listener even brought up those old claymation NBC bumpers saying, “After these messages, we’ll be riiiiight back!” you might even be able to hear that line in your head as soon as you read it.

Scooby-Doo Was Right Behind It

The other big favorite was definitely Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!.

A ton of you said there was nothing better than waking up early and solving mysteries with Scooby and the gang before the rest of the house even woke up.

And I fully agree. The original version (1969) just hits differently.

The 80s and 90s Kids Showed Up Strong

The comments turned into a full-on nostalgia trip.

Some of you shouted out classics like The Smurfs, Tom and Jerry, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, and Jonny Quest.

Others leaned heavily into the 80s action cartoon era with G.I. Joe, Transformers, Voltron, ThunderCats, and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

And then the 90s Nickelodeon crowd rolled in with Doug, Rugrats, CatDog, Rocket Power, Hey Arnold!, and Rocko's Modern Life.

The comments section felt like the greatest Saturday morning lineup ever assembled and I would love to go back in time to enjoy one of those Saturdays.

It Was More Than Just Cartoons

One of my favorite comments talked about having donuts, a bottle of SunnyD, and three straight hours of cartoons ahead of you. That right there is childhood.

Back then, Saturday mornings felt special. No phones. No social media. Just cartoons, cereal, pajamas, and trying not to wake anybody else up too early.

And apparently, no matter how old we get, those memories still stick with us.

Now excuse me while I go watch some Scooby-Doo.
