Indiana may be known for basketball, racing, and corn, but that doesn’t mean the Hoosier state hasn’t produced some stud baseball players over the years.

Southern Indiana Stars Make Their Mark in 2025 MLB Draft

A recent example of that would be the two young men from Southern Indiana (Matthew Fisher and Cam Tilly) who were just selected in the 2025 MLB draft. And earlier this month, we saw Colson Montgomery, a Huntingburg native, make an impressive MLB debut with the Chicago White Sox.

Seeing those stories and preparing to watch this year’s MLB All-Star game got me thinking and wondering. How many ball players from Indiana have played in past All-Star Games?

How Many Indiana-Born Players Have Been MLB All-Stars?

According to my research (and I use that word lightly), there have been a dozen Indiana-born players to make an MLB All-Star team since the very first game back in 1933. These Hoosier athletes have gone from backyard ball fields, inner cities, and high school dugouts to rubbing elbows with some all-time legends at the Midsummer Classic.

Take Evansville’s most famous player, Don Mattingly, for example. “Donny Baseball” went from a small Catholic school (Memorial HS) to the Big Apple, where he became one of the best first basemen in the game, racking up six all-star appearances along the way. Ask anyone and they’ll tell you Don deserves to be in Cooperstown (home of the MLB Hall of Fame). He’s not there yet, but nobody deserves it more!
