While snow, especially if it comes early enough in the season, may be met with eye rolls and groans, it also makes possible some of the best fun you will ever have. My memories of sledding in the winter are some of my favorites.

Snow Tubing in Kentucky and Indiana

The big hill that once bordered Rose Hill Cemetery saw a lot of traffic from my neighborhood. And, on rare snow days at Western Kentucky University, we'd all march up to Van Meter Hall at the top of the hill. It was next to an irresistible steep slope. It was incredible fun.

I can't really recommend either for this story, however. The first one no longer exists, and there may now be rules in place for the second one with all the changes to the campus. But no matter. The following suggestions are all top-flight, so grab your tube and feel like a kid again.

Reitz Hill

I've always been a fan of Reitz High School's architecture and location. Its views of downtown Evansville and the Ohio River are stunning. All schools should have such aesthetically pleasing vistas. They'd also all be lucky to have a magnificent tubing hill next to the football stadium, as Reitz does. 14News-WFIE Chief Meteorologist Jeff Lyons would also sing its praises.

Kentucky Kingdom's Blizzard Bluff

This year marks the second annual Christmas at Kentucky Kingdom, and guests are delighting in four different Christmas zones, millions of beautiful lights, and the largest snow tubing hill Kentucky has to offer. It's called "Blizzard Bluff."

Devine's Winter Fun Fest

How about a trip to the oldest city in Kentucky for a little snow tubing? Clearly, when you're in Harrodsburg, which clocks in at 251 years old, you have so much to take in, but make time for Devine's Winter Fun Fest, Christmas at the Farm. Just grab a tube, and have a blast.

Paoli Peaks

I couldn't wrap this up without a nod to one of the most popular winter destinations Southern Indiana has to offer. I remember when our church used to have youth trips to Paoli. I never went because I didn't ski, but I didn't think about snow tubing. That's a different story; you can't get me off an inner tube in the snow.

As always, if you're going tubing, make sure you have permission to be on the property if it isn't a commercial venture like the ones above. Dress warmly, and have a great time.
