Join The Fun: Volleyball Leagues In Owensboro For All Skill Levels
Volleyball continues to grow in popularity here in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Much of that growth- particularly at the junior and high school level- has been propelled by the strength of various Division 1 teams at universities across the state. For instance, as I am writing this story, the Louisville Lady Cardinals are currently ranked #3 in the nation with a 23-3 record. The University of Kentucky Lady Wildcats are ranked #12 with a 17-7 record.
Of course, just a few years ago, UK won their first ever NCAA Championship!
And, while they didn't crack the Top 25, the Western Kentucky Lady Hilltoppers managed to receive votes this week and are on the cusp of breaking into the current collegiate rankings.
Owensboro Parks & Recreation, well aware of the local popularity of the sport, are gearing up for their Adult and Youth Winter Volleyball Leagues. First, let's talk about the adult leagues first.
The Adult Coed League is a team sport that offers two different divisions. There is a recreational team for players looking to have some fun and to exercise. I played in that league for a season. It was incredibly fun. For more advanced players there is an Intermediate League. Both are set to begin on Monday, January 13th and registrations are open now. To sign you and your team up, you can call 270-687-8700 or you can visit owensboroparks.org.
In addition to the Adult Coed League, Owensboro Parks and Recreation are hosting a Little Spikers instructional league that gets underway on Saturday, February 8th. Led by experienced local volleyball coaches, the Little Spikers League is intended for grades 2nd through the 5th.
