Coffee Crawlers 270; Longtime Friends Share Reviews of Local Brews
I suppose it could be my algorithm (I do love me some foodie news), but I think it's safe to say that there has definitely been an increase in sharing reviews of restaurants and trending snacks on social media.
Who doesn't want the inside scoop on what special dishes we just HAVE to try? I can't be the only one who bases my decisions as a consumer, at least partially, on what other people think. Especially if I believe that person has good taste or knowledge of a particular thing.
My friend Lexi Campbell is my go-to if I want honest feedback on two things:
- Coffee
- Sweets
She and her longtime friend, Melody Mourning, are Coffee Crawlers 270. They've been friends for 26 years after first meeting in 7th grade at Collegeview Middle School. "Coffee Crawlers 270 is more than coffee. It’s about connection, supporting local businesses, and encouraging women to carve out time for themselves. Even if it’s just an hour or two each week." Melody shared.

The dynamic duo documents their experiences for followers of their new Facebook page. However, that wasn't the initial plan when they started meeting up. Lexi shared, "We've been friends for most of our lives, but like a lot of women, especially moms, we didn't make self-care or 'me time' a priority. I was having a rough time over the summer and asked Melody if she wanted to meet up for coffee."
Like that first sip in the morning, it was fuel for the soul. "It started as us two planning to meet up once a week at a different coffee shop, as a way to stay connected." Melody said, "We thought it would be fun if we started posting reviews to showcase the local coffee scene. We’ve had friends join us along the way, and now it’s a whole community."
They get together each Wednesday and welcome other women to join them. Lexi told me, "Somewhere along the line, we thought it would be fun to review local shops. We love supporting small businesses!" Owensboro has so many new places popping up; it's been nice to read their feedback before visiting myself.
While the 270 area code is in the name, they do plan to travel to surrounding areas. "We have been given recommendations for shops in Cannelton and Ohio County as well. We also plan to venture to Muhlenberg, Henderson, and McLean County."
I asked them to share their favorite part of visiting a new shop. Lexi loves the company, of course, and the opportunity to try new drinks with creative flavors. "The Spot had a Strawberries and Creme Latte over the summer that I loved. Honey Moon in Evansville had a great banana cream cold brew over the summer. Joyful Java has a good banana drink right now. The Creme has a great fall lineup. "
Melody loves experiencing each place (hopefully) as the owner would want. "They all have a unique personality, and it’s like walking into a new little world each week." As a busy mom, she also appreciates convenience. "I’ve probably grabbed more of The Creme’s Campfire canned coffee in the Dee’s Diner drive-thru line than I can count."
"This area has a great coffee scene. I truly don't think I could pick a favorite shop." Lexi added. The ladies are down to adventure anywhere in the tri-state, so if you know of a good one they should visit, let them know. Melody said, "At the end of the day, it’s coffee, community, and connection. That’s what Coffee Crawlers 270 is all about.
