Extreme Heat Warning: Tristate Facing Longest, Most Dangerous Heatwave of the Summer

Lawd have mercy. Bring on the air conditioning! The National Weather Service Office in Paducah says the Tristate is about to experience "the longest heatwave of the summer season." An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect through Sunday night and it's going to get hot, steamy, and sweaty. And, not in the good way.

That Extreme Heat Warning impacts portions of southern Illinois, southern Indiana, and western Kentucky. Here's a look at the map outlining the affected areas.

Also note those projected heat index values. I live in Owensboro and it appears we're facing four consecutive days of 110 plus. Ugh!

That heat index means it will feel hotter than it actually is. But, honestly, we're going to be flirting with triple digit temperatures on the thermometer too. The National Weather Service Paducah expects some cities in its coverage area to cross that triple-digit mark.

That kind of heat can cause significant problems. As you can see, we're going to achieve the NWS' Magenta risk level, which is incredibly rare. We'll experience "long-duration extreme heat with no overnight relief."
