Earlier this week, Airport Sorgho Fire Department Chief Pat Thompson got the opportunity of a lifetime. He was invited inside the Oval Office to meet with the President of the United States. Chief Thompson was there, along with other officials from around the country, for the signing of the Fire Grants and Safety Act, which "will provide funding to departments across the country to allow additional firefighters to be hired." That act also includes funding for other fire safety measures and initiatives.

Now, back at the home, Chief Thompson's Airport Sorgho Fire Department is hosting a blood drive! Just a couple of weeks ago, blood supplies were at critical lows at the Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center. Luckily, annual blood drives like ASFD's are on the books.

Jenny Johnson, from the Airport Sorgho Fire Department, says they've set a lofty (and competitive) goal. That goal? They're hoping for at least thirty donors Thursday, July 11th, when they host their Community Blood Drive from 4pm to 8pm at the fire station. Jenny admits that the goal has a dual purpose. 1) ASFD wants to get as many donations as possible for the Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center.  They're well aware that one blood donation is separated into three distinct blood products and each has the power to save one life. So, yes! One simple donation has the power to save up the three lives. 2) They really really really want "to beat the Saint Joe Fire Department for the first time!"
