Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois has been forced to implement a tough policy change that everyone needs to be aware of before they head to the park this summer.
Shooting at Six Flags Great America
At around 8:20 p.m. on Monday, July 7, 2025 police officers were called to the parking lot of Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois for a report of shots fired.
Police did not locate any shooting victims upon arrival, but there was evidence that a shooting had taken place. Investigation of this incident is still ongoing, but it may be the driving force behind an important policy change that goes into effect this Thursday, July 17.
Chaperone Policy at Six Flags Great America
A press release from Six Flags Great America says:
Beginning July 17, 2025, the Chaperone Policy will be reactivated at Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor Chicago.
Under this policy, all guests 15 years old and younger must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or adult chaperone who is at least 21 years of age to enter or remain in the park.
Important Things to Know About Six Flags' Chaperone Policy
According to an article from NBC Chicago, Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, is not the only Six Flags park re-implementing the Chaperone Policy, Six Flags St. Louis in Eureka, Missouri is doing it too.
Here are some important things to know about the policy before you go:
- The Chaperone Policy will be in effect all day from July 17 through July 20.
- Starting July 21 and going forward, the Chaperone Policy applies starting at 5 p.m. until the park closes.
- One chaperone can only accompany up to 10 minors.
- Chaperones must remain inside the park and be reachable by phone.
- Anyone 16 and older must present identification at entry to verify their age.
- The Chaperone Policy applies to all park visitors, including season pass holders and members.
