Comfort food should be easy to eat and easy to love. To me, deep dish is neither. It's heavy, hard to eat, and one slice could make you think it's time for a little nap. It's also one of the least easy-to-eat foods on the planet, especially when you consider it's just a slice of pizza.

It's a slice of pizza so big that people unfamiliar with it call it a quiche.

Just yesterday, Lou Malnati's was Illinois's top "must-see" restaurant. So I wonder if that has something to do with their deep dish pizza? Maybe? People would call it tourist bait, not actual comfort food. That is, unless your idea of comfort involves ending up in a food coma after fighting with pizza that won't cut.
